Science in the City 2010

Science in the City is an amazing event that aims to excite and enthuse students about everything science. It shows them just how fun science can be - not to mention where it can take them.

Science in the Suburbs & Science in the Bush are the range of outreach programmes that are available for students around the state. They run in country centres from Coffs and Albury, as well as a range of locations around Sydney including Londonderry and Homebush.

What is Science in the City?

Science in the City is a celebration of the contribution of science to society and will be run as a part of National Science Week 2010.

The program features over 200 timetabled activities and attracts over 4,000 visitors throughout the extravaganza. Teachers can tailor a program to suit their class by selecting from the huge range of activities on offer including shows, workshops, seminars, tours, competitions and lectures.

Science in the City is exciting, stimulating, innovative and interactive! If you don’t believe us come along and see for yourself… you won’t be disappointed! It provides a great opportunity for students to discover and appreciate the wonder of science.


When is Science in the City?

Science in the City is always held in early August and runs over two weeks. To ensure students get the most out of their day, each week is dedicated to a certain education/knowledge level. The first week is for high school students whilst the second week is for primary school students.

At the Science in the City website you will find a range of information about the Science in the City High School Program and the Science in the City Primary School Program.

In 2008, the University had a number of workshops, talks and expo booths at Science in the City. These include Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Plant Energy Biology and Physics workshops, a Physics Air Show and talks by Associate Professor Tony Masters and Dr Karl Kruszelnicki.

Science in the Suburbs & Science in the Bush

What is Science in the Suburbs & Science in the Bush?

Since 2002 Science in the City has run a number of outreach events titled Science in the Suburbs or Science in the Bush. These events run between May and November across the state.

The Faculty runs a number of its stimulating and exciting shows, workshops and talks at many of these events throughout the year.

Science in the Suburbs and Science in the Bush is supported by the Australian Government through the Science Connections Programme administered by the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research.
