2009 is 400 years since Galileo turned a telescope to the heavens. The International Year of Astronomy (IYA2009), a global celebration of astronomy and its contributions to society and culture, marks this event.

New neutron star discovered in The Frying Pan

Dr Stephen Ng from the Sydney Institute for Astronomy & his team have discovered an extremely rare neutron star in the Frying Pan. The star leaves a long trail or 'handle' as it bursts from a supernova remnant.
Music and the Cosmos

Music and the Cosmos, presented by the Sydney Science Forum and Sydney Conservatorium of Music (SCM), featured leading astronomers from the University of Sydney's School of Physics and the SCM Brass Ensemble.
