Honours Information Week: 15-19 September, 2008: During Honours Information Week, Schools and departments of the Faculty of Science will run information sessions to advise students about Honours and the types of projects that are available for 2009. If you're wondering whether Honours is for you or you're considering undertaking Honours next year, attendance at the information sessions is essential.

Applying for Honours in the Faculty of Science 2008

All students must apply to be admitted to an Honours year.

This includes students who are already enrolled in a four year course with a compulsory Honours year, e.g. Bachelor of Psychology.

Gaining entry into Honours is competitive - the standard that you need to achieve must meet certain minimum requirements but will also depend on the number and quality of other applicants in that year.

Local students please note: As deferment of honours is not possible, applicants need to apply in the semester prior to commencement.

How do I apply?

All Local Internal (currently enrolled) and External Students

Students applying for Honours will need to use the resources on this page to follow these steps:

Download and read the Honours Application Information and Honours Application Form from this page.
Contact the relevant School or Discipline using the Honours Coordinator Contact Information on this page.
Organise a potential supervisor within the School or Discipline if required by the School or Discipline.
Arrange for the School or Discipline Honours Coordinator to sign your Honours application form or attach an acknowledgement from the School or Discipline that you have notified them of your intention to study there.
If you are applying for Honours in more than one area then list your areas in order of preference on the application form. You will need to repeat steps 2, 3 & 4 for each area you are applying to.
Submit the completed application form to the Faculty of Science Office by the due date.

Note: Most Schools and Disciplines also have their own separate application forms which must be completed and submitted directly to that School or Discipline. This is not a substitute for applying to the Faculty of Science Office and applicants to these Schools must also submit an application to the Faculty Office as described on this page.

Internal (currently enrolled) international students

Will need to complete the steps above and ALSO submit an International Undergraduate Student Application Form to the International Office for visa processing.

External international students

If possible, students need to contact the relevant School/Discipline Honours Coordinator before applying through the International Office.

The students will need to provide evidence of establishing an academic contact/supervisor with their application form.

Students need to complete an “International Undergraduate Student Application Form” and lodge this at the International Office.

Application Deadlines

Semester 2, 2008 Entry

The deadline for all local Honours applications is 30 May 2008.

The deadline for all international Honours applications is 30 April 2008

Late applications from international students will be considered on a case by case basis.

March 2009 Entry

Deadline to be confirmed. (Students who wish to apply for Honours to start in March next year 2009 should check this site from September 2009 onwards for relevant updated information).
