Bachelor of Liberal Studies

In no other degree can you study the breadth of subjects offered in the Bachelor of Liberal Studies and the Bachelor of Liberal Studies (International). If you have a wide variety of interests and don’t want to restrict yourself to majors offered in one degree, or if you have specific interests in areas covered in both the arts and the sciences you will be interested in the Bachelor of Liberal Studies. Compulsory requirements in the four year degree are studies in a language other than English, one semester of mathematics, a one semester communication subject and at least one major from Arts and one from Science.

Degree Profile

  • at least 120 intermediate & senior credit points
  • at least one arts major and one science major

  • study at a recognised overseas institution [this is a compulsory requirement for students enrolled in the Bachelor of Liberal Studies (International) only]

BLibStud (International)

This program allows students the opportunity to travel to an overseas university with which the University of Sydney has an exchange agreement. The international stream for this degree will require a minimum of 24 credit points (one semester) of study at an overseas university. Students in the BLibStud may be able to transfer to the BLibStud (International) stream if suitably qualified. Students enrolled in the BLibStud and the BLibStud (International) have to complete 192 credit points over a minimum of four years.

Studying for a first degree opens up a whole range of postgraduate study opportunities. Postgraduate studies enable you to concentrate further on your major area of interest, to diversify your studies, or to study for a professional qualification such as the Master of Commerce.

The Bachelor of Liberal Studies provides ideal preparation for postgraduate study in the University of Sydney’s graduate medicine or graduate law programs. The right subject combination will enable you to go on to study in a professional area such as psychology, nutrition and dietetics or chiropractic or teaching.

Students also have the opportunity to include some subjects from the College of Arts, Conservatorium of Music and Faculties of Architecture, Economics and Education.
