Cross-institutional study (Outbound)

If you are interested in taking a unit/s from another Australian university as part of your degree, you can apply to the Faculty of Science to study on a cross-institutional basis. You must complete and submit the application form above, and provide all documentation requested. You must also contact the university that offers the unit/s well in advance of your intended semester of study for information on application procedures and deadlines.

Discontinuation of my Science degree

Discontinuation is stopping your studies in a degree program completely. Students who have decided not to study any further, who have transferred to another degree, another Faculty or another University must discontinue their Science degree.

Financial assistance
Have you taken time off work to prepare for exams and assessments and are struggling to meet your rent, buy food, or cover bills? The Financial Assistance Office has bursaries and interest free loans that are to help with these kinds of expenses. Honours in the Faculty of Science is a widely recognised and highly regarded additional year of undergraduate study available to students who have recently completed their undergraduate degree. Honours is a unique opportunity for students to explore their research potential by designing an independent project and producing a thesis of their work.

Non-award study

Students who wish to undertake one or more units of study for their own interest, or for other reasons, may enrol in single units as a non-award student. Admission as a non-award student is assessed on an individual basis. Non-degree students pay full tuition fees to undertake a unit of study (subject) offered in the Faculty of Science without being enrolled in an award course (degree).

Recommencement

Recommencement is starting your degree studies again after you have suspended. All suspended students need to contact the Faculty to recommence their studies when their suspension period comes to an end.

Science electives (SCEL) Download the application form
The Science Elective (SCEL) Application Form is for students who are affected by the change of most Science units of study to 6 credit point values.

Special arrangements can be made for students who have difficulty submitting assessment tasks due to essential community commitments (eg. Essential religious commitments, jury duty, Australian Defence Force commitment etc.)

If a student whose work during a teaching period or performance in an exam or assessment, has been affected by serious illness or misadventure, an Application for Special Consideration form must be submitted to the Faculty of Science within seven days of the affected exam or assessment.

Special Permission

Students who wish to undertake an advanced unit of study or who have failed a pre-requisite for a unit of study they wish to undertake, are required to complete a Special Permission form and have it signed by the relevant School or department before submitting it to the Faculty of Science Office.

Students at risk

The Faculty of Science recognises the value of reliably and efficiently monitoring the progress of students in their studies, and of having systems in place to promote the early detection of students who are making poor or unsatisfactory progress and are therefore at risk of exclusion from their degree.

Transferring within the Faculty of Science

Students who are currently enrolled in a Faculty of Science degree and who wish to transfer to another degree within the Faculty must complete the above form. Students may also transfer to the Faculty of Science from another Faculty within the University of Sydney or from other universities. Withdrawing from a unit of study (International students)
Download the application form
International students who hold a student visa and wish to withdraw from a unit of study can download an international student unit of study withdrawal form above.
Download the application form. This form must be submitted to the Faculty of Science Office by the Unit of Study Withdrawal Application deadline.
