Anya Salih

Anya Salih

Microscopy/Biological Sciences. Anya can usually be found either in the University of Sydney's Electron Microscope Unit, or somewhere on the Great Barrier Reef. Anya has spent a large part of her PhD devising ways to diagnose coral condition. The rest of her PhD, she has spent looking at the pigments in coral tissues and how they can act as a kind of sunscreen for the coral.

Christine Faulkner

Honours Student, School of Biological Sciences. Christine had an early introduction to research when she was invited to join the School of Biological Science's Talented Students Program, after enrolling in a Bachelor of Science (Advanced). The Talented Students Program allowed Christine to take part in specially tailored classes that gave her one on one contact with academics and the opportunity to do research projects of her own.

Biochemistry. Fiona has spent the last four and a half years researching the role of calcium in the human immune system. In particular, she is interested in neutrophils, which are cells that attack and destroy invading bacteria.

Chemistry. Matt Hall is completing a PhD in Chemistry researching the use of platinum complexes as anti-cancer drugs.

Nick Sheppard

Computer Science. decided to do a PhD in computer science after working as a programmer and finding that it wasn't challenging enough for him. In Nick's research, he tries to prove that algorithms have various properties so that they can be implemented in computer programming. This has given Nick the opportunity to undertake research within computing and mathematics concurrently.
