Internships and Scholarships
The Centre for Mathematical Biology stimulates and supports excellent research across the interface of the mathematical and biological sciences. The CMB will offer:
- internships to second- and third-year students for a project that spans both mathematics and biology and offer good prospects for proceeding to honours.
- top-up scholarships to M.Phil. or PhD students who pursue an interdisciplinary project spanning mathematics and biology.
Internships
Candidates for internships must be second- or third-year students, who must apply through a supervisor selected from the CMB membership list. The student must have taken at least 6 credit points in biology in first-year and have taken or be taking at least 6 credit points in second-year or produce equivalent documented evidence of interest in both mathematics and biology. The project must span both areas and offer good prospects for proceeding to honours. Collective behaviour and cellular signalling will be priority themes. The successful candidate will be expected to spend the full-time equivalent of two months working on the project.
Scholarships
Candidates for a top-up scholarship must be:
- M.Phil. students who are pursuing an interdisciplinary project and enrol in suitable coursework in both mathematics and biology;
Or
- PhD students whose project spans both mathematics and biology.
Preference may be given to candidates who were previously awarded internships in mathematical biology.
Applications can be made at any time. Internships are worth $1000 and top-up scholarships are worth $5000 p.a. The number of awards will be limited by the funding available.
