• Dr Tim Schmidt first Australian to win the Coblentz Award

  

  Dr Tim Schmidt, from the School of Chemistry, is the first Australian to win the 2010 Coblentz Award from US vibrational spectroscopy association, the Coblentz Society.

• Sydney scientists discover hundreds of star quakes

  

  Astronomers at the University of Sydney are using data from NASA's Kepler Mission to learn more about the future fate of the Sun. The first results from the mission are being announced on 5 January 2010.

• ARC appointment for Professor Tony Weiss

  

  Professor Tony Weiss, from the School of Molecular and Microbial Biosciences, has been appointed Chair of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology for the Australian Research Council's College of Experts.
